Program Information-old draft
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
The Georgetown Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program is designed for qualified students who have finished their undergraduate degrees, but lack all or most of the core pre-med science courses (Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, or Math). The program is not appropriate for those who have completed the basic pre-med courses and wish to enroll only in advanced coursework. The program is also not intended for those who want to improve their GPA by repeating basic pre-med courses that they have already completed. Students in these categories should consider the Special Masters Program offered by the Georgetown University Medical Center Department of Physiology or the GEMS program offered by the Georgetown University School of Medicine.
International applicants please see the FAQs on the left.
PBPM students enroll in the same science and math courses offered to our undergraduate students, ensuring that all of our students receive the same high-quality education. PBPM students attend lectures with undergraduates at classes offered during the day. Our program offers some lab sections particularly for PBPM students in order to foster a sense of community and opportunities for study together. Post-Bac students are expected to maintain a GPA of at least 3.2 during the completion of their coursework.
The requirements for the Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Certificate are successful completion of 30 credits of pre-med level science and math courses with a minimum GPA of 3.2. These credits must be earned from among the following four areas of medical school pre-requisite courses:
Calculus I & II (4 credits each)
Probability and Statistics (4 credits)
Introductory Biology I (5 credits)
Mammalian Physiology (3-4 credits)
Immunology (4 credits)
Neurobiology (4 credits)
Genetics (4 credits)
Biochemistry (4 credits)
Cell Biology (3 credits)
Microbiology (4 credits)
General Chemistry I & II (3 credits each)
General Chemistry lab I & II (2 credits each)
Organic Chemistry I & II (3 credits each)
Organic Chemistry lab I & II (2 credits each)
Principles of Physics I & II (4 credits each)
Students who may have already completed a pre-req course before coming to Georgetown will complete the remaining requirements and may take additional science or math electives, such as Genetics (4 credits), Biological Chemistry (4 credits), Microbiology (4 credits), to reach the 30 credit hour requirement. Credits from undergraduate institutions or other post-bac programs do not transfer to the certificate program.
