Pre-Medical Studies at Georgetown

Undergraduate Pre-Medical Studies at Georgetown

Undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelors degree in any of the undergraduate schools at Georgetown University may obtain the necessary training, extracurricular activities, and advising to meet medical school admissions criteria. Typical minimum coursework for medical school includes one full year of each of the following:

• General Chemistry with lab

• Organic Chemistry with lab

• Principles of Physics with lab

• Mathematics (at least one semester each of calculus and statistics is recommended)

• Biology with lab: Students typically enroll in Introductory Biology I and a second biology course with a lab. Students can choose from Introductory Biology II, Genetics, Biological Chemistry, or Microbiology. Students in the School of Nursing and Health Studies meet this requirement with Human Biology I & II.

As noted above, students can major in any degree program and at the same time fulfill the minimum requirements for medical, dental, or veterinary school as part of their elective coursework. In Georgetown College, students with majors in Biochemistry, Biology (including the Biology, Neurobiology, Biology of Global Health, and Environmental Biology degree programs), Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics include several of the required pre-med courses in the major. School of Nursing and Health Studies students with majors in Human Science and International Health also meet several of their pre-med requirements through their degree coursework.

The Pre-Medical program offers group and individual advising to Georgetown undergraduate and PostBaccalaureate Pre-Medical students. Additionally, the Pre-Medical Recommendation Committee, which is composed of faculty from Georgetown College, the School of Nursing and Health Studies, and the Georgetown School of Medicine, advises students.
